Bread of Life Food Pantry

We are an extension of the Good Shepherd Food Bank and provide food for those in need in the communities of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Hebron. We served between 70 and 80 families a month and distributed over 47,000 pounds of food during 2005. It is our goal to serve those who are on a limited income and need a helping hand to make ends meet.
We provide food to the:
-
1) “elderly and widowed“, who are on a fixed income,
2) “working poor”, who need a little extra boost to help them through,
3) “disabled”, those who cannot work or whose work ability is limited due to disability,
either temporary or permanent.
One middle aged woman, who is a recovering alcoholic, expressed to us the importance of the food pantry this way:
The help with food has really helped me manage my limited resources.
There is another area in which the food bank has helped me personally.
I found that the workers there are so kind and thoughtful and that you are not judged
when you go there for help. Now when my work schedule allows I go and
help distribute the food as it gives me a chance to give back
and I know I will be inspired by the other workers.”
This is a clear example of our mission to give people a ‘hand up’ not just a ‘hand out’. This woman has gone from ‘receiving’ to ‘contributing’, from ‘instability’ to ‘stability’ within a 10 month period!
